Changing Line Spacing
Harold Laski

I have several fields that use long text What used to be called memo fields.) SOme of these used fonts that are very small such as font size 6 or 7. However I would like to change the space between lines within the field so that it appears more compact.

There is a Line Spacing property in the Property Sheet. You will find it on the Format Tab.

The problem here is that it does not get close enough. On Microsoft Word I can a tuslly get the line spacing to less than a single line. This does not mean that the words are on top of each other, but the lines are closer together. Is there a way to do this in Access?

It can't be done in Access.  Word can do it because it puts tons of markups (format codes) on the document.  Access stores mainly plain data only.  Even the rich text field in Access only allows a limited set of markups, and unfortunately line spacing is not one of them.  If you must have tighter line spacing, break up the text into N-character segments, and put every N characters in a separate textbox; then reduce every textbox's height.  Or you can have your textbox auto-enlarge when it has more than N characters, and auto-shrink when it doesn't.  Anyway, a textbox can have a scrollbar, so I would say there isn't much need to cramp a lot of text inside the visible area.

I understand and I do use the scrollbar for the form. However, I needed this to decrease the size of my printed reports. Have you noted, for example, on TV, when they advertise a medication, they speed through the side effects of the medication in order to spend less time on airtime?  Same here, these particular fields that I wanted to compact are just government required text that must accompany each patient's printed information. Anyway. Thank you for the information.

If it is just for display, you have more options, such as screen-capturing part of a Word document (with the line spacing you want) and put it on an Access form/report as an image.

Now that is thinking outside the (Text)box!

Kevin, that is a great idea, but only if the fields above are of a fixed size. If the text fields above the image gets bigger and push down on the fields below on the report, then the image of the text would eventually be bumped over to the next page leaving a large space in the document.

You could also use a little Word automation and create a document from VBA. You could set whatever line spacing you want then. I've got lessons on this coming up.

Hi Harold, put the image inside the page footer and it will always be at the bottom of a page.  The footer section can also be enlarged to accommodate a large image.
