Field cannot be updated

I keep getting an error field cannot be updated in my invoicing sub form. This occurred after I linked another field from the products table in the OrderDetailsQ. I already have five from the products table. But it does not occur in the OrderDetailsQuery.

if you open the query directly, do you see the *new record at the bottom still?

See the Not Updateable video.

We are probably going to need some screen shots here.  Please indicate the field you added.
Check the settings in the properties on the form and make sure you don't have it locked or disabled.

What is the exact error message you are getting?

In the screenshot the status field started the error. It occurred after I added the status field.

Sorry we typed over each other.  Do you have any code in the form that would lock it down when it is sold?

It it just that field that is not update-able or the whole record now?

I only have docmd maximize and a dlookup to seach record from the product table.

It does update after hitting OK.

One likely cause is that when you enter a new record, it violates the one-to-many referential integrity between a field on the subform and a field on another table.  Go to Database Tools -> Relationships and check for such referential integrity.  For instance, if the Status field on your subform is on the "many" side that is dependent on the "one" side of another table, creating a new record will momentarily cause the Status field to be blank, which will likely cause an error -- because a blank value doesn't exist on the "one"-side table, hence a violation on referential integrity.

I haven't seen the "Field cannot be updated" error in a long time, so Access may have been updated to show a more helpful and less vague message.  What version of Access gives you this error?
