Error Msg Entering SubForm
Giovanni Miranda

Hi,

Here's my Error Code: (see attached Image)

I don't understand why "once in a while", not every time but when it happens I get this error msg.

All it is is a seperate Form from the Main Form that I dragged it into. The Form is located at the upper-right corner of the Main Form.

What are the circumstances of receiving this error?
Which field? Data Type?
Is there code in the Subform?

Well, like I said it doesn't happen all the time, I'm filling out the form and the last Field before it goes to the SubForm is the ComRateAddonList Field, and when I tab out of the Field it gets sent to the very first field of the subform all by its own. It's a number field so I either try to paste the number in or type it in it doesn't matter which. The only code in the subform is the Before Update for the Field SubFormLastUpdated. I'm in "Edit Mode" of the Main Form, in other words to make changes to the Form you have to click on the "Edit" button before any changes can be made to the Main Form itself.

What is the record source of the subform?  If it's a query, it may cause a problem, even if the query is editable.  I've seen it before.  Try using a single table's name as the subform's record source.

The SubForm is based and pulling off of its own table called CommAirportSubTable, I created the table, created a Form based on the Table, then moved the Form into ComAirportForm as a SubForm.  Pretty straight forward, so I thought...I do have the ComAirportForm so that it loades with all the Fields un-editable so as not to accidentally hit the keyboard and you change something unknowingly. I have a EditRecBtn to Click and unprotect ALL the Fields to be able to enter new infor or just edit the Record. But, I don't see how that affects the SubForm as it isn't even included with the Main Form so even if the Main Form is Protected you can still add data into the Fields of the SubForm, which I'll be rectifying in a bit. Other than that, you should be able to paste and enter anything into the fields first or last doesn't matter since it isn't protected.

What does "based off of a table" mean?  Is the record source only the table's name (see picture below), or is it an SQL statement?  Even if it is, try blanking out the record source, save and close the form, reopen the form, and put the table name back in.  This is just to eliminate a possibility.  I have a sample database that gives the same error, and it is fixed by resetting the record source to a single table.  It is just a quirk of Access that may be affecting you too.

I tried that, it did not change a  thing.  Do you think that maybe because I dragged the Form into it when it was in an un-editable mode that that could be causing the proglem? Do you think that if I deleted the SubForm saved the main form and re-dragged the SubForm back into the Main Form that that might take care of the problem?  I'm reaching here...

Kevin,

Well I tried removing the SubForm and re-applying it and that didn't work. Like I had mentioned before the form opens in a protected state, which means that ALL Fields are non-editable.  Do you think that might have something to do with it?  I think I'll try to take the protection off and see if that helps.  Like you said, Access is quirky...

You said you have to paste the airport code from the main form into the subform.  You shouldn't have to do that if the main form and subform are linked with the airport code.  As soon as you enter the airport code on the main form, the subform should *automatically* show the same airport code.  This is how such a link fundamentally works in this situation.  And if you don't have to manually paste the airport code, you likely won't get that error.

I see what you're saying, I'll try that out...

Hey Kevin,

Your last advice made me look twice at my Table design, the two identical Fields in Tables were of different values.  In my Form I had it defined as a "Number", and in the SubForm it was defined as "Short Text"...

I could kick myself, but you nudged me into the right direction with all your advice as I got closer and closer with each step you had taken me through.  I appreciate all your help as now I've redone the SubForm and have made a few tweaks and now everything is working the way it should be.

Thanks again for all your help.
