Unfortunately there isn't a ton that can be done with reports (invoice) to make them "pretty".  Richard focuses most of his teaching on the technical aspects of difficult situations.
I personally would head out to Google or any of the other search engines and look at online examples of what is out there.
If you find something post it here and we may be able to figure out how to mimic the form.

I don't know exactly what you are trying to accomplish but you might take a look at the Aesthetics video.  While this pertains mostly to forms some of the ideas might translate to the making of the invoice.

Hi Alexis, I suggest that you start sketching it out the way you want to look. What do you consider professional looking? You can make it as you want it!

The correct invoice format to use is one that accommodates all the data you need your invoice to show, and that depends on your industry and profession.  If you trade goods internationally (like my company did in my old job), you need to use "commercial invoices" for customs, which require an industry-standard format.  Search Google for "commercial invoice" if that's what you need.  We had to put a lot more info on such invoices: product's ingredients, country of origin, whether or not it has hazardous material, etc.  On the other hand, invoices for everyday consumer purchases can be as simple as having just date, seller's name, and amount, if that's all you require.
