Margins and Padding

Hey guys
I have a question I can't find an answer to and I don't see that it was covered in any of the courses or TechHelp.

1. I don't quite understand the Margins and Padding in the properties when designing a form. Did I miss something somewhere?

2. Is there a place / way to change the default values that come in when designing a new form?

The reason I ask is I've always had an issue with the I-cursor being right up against the left edge when in a field.  My old eyes just don't see where it is sometimes.
Plus I think just a little bit of white space at the left would make things look better on the form.

Ideas?

Padding and margins never worked for me. I love to hear the answer to Scott's question.

From ChatGPT:

In Microsoft Access, the "margins" properties for a TextBox control refer to the spacing around the content within the TextBox. These properties allow you to control the distance between the text and the edges of the TextBox. There are several margin-related properties you can adjust for a TextBox:

Top Margin: Specifies the distance between the top edge of the TextBox and the top of the text it contains.

Bottom Margin: Specifies the distance between the bottom edge of the TextBox and the bottom of the text it contains.

Left Margin: Specifies the distance between the left edge of the TextBox and the left side of the text it contains.

Right Margin: Specifies the distance between the right edge of the TextBox and the right side of the text it contains.

By adjusting these margin properties, you can control the layout and appearance of text within the TextBox. This is particularly useful when you want to create a specific spacing or alignment within the TextBox.

To set or modify these properties in Microsoft Access:

Open the form or report in Design View.

Select the TextBox control for which you want to adjust the margins.

In the property sheet, look for properties related to margins. These are typically named something like "TopMargin," "BottomMargin," "LeftMargin," and "RightMargin."

Enter the desired values for each margin property.

Keep in mind that these margin properties are specific to the TextBox control and may not be available or applicable to other types of controls in Microsoft Access. Adjusting margins can be particularly helpful when designing forms or reports to ensure proper spacing and alignment of text content.

From Me:

Look at your attached graphic.   You've set a 0.0299" Left Margin for the FirstName Textbox... You can see that the text in the box is moved slightly to the right from the left inside edge of the textbox outline.   Notice that the other textboxes have there text almost touching the inside left edge of the textbox outline.

Yes sir that is helpful.  I was just playing with the margins and that seems to be a good spacing.  Through trial and error setting it pretty high I finally got it to move.
My main question now is for setting it as a default for forms.  Also, I have no clue what the "padding" is for.
