Multiple Ship to Address
Carl Byerley

On my order form I need to select from multiple shipping addresses. I have multiple customers, these customers have several shipping addresses and may even share them with other customers. I have a ShipTo table. I need a combo box that will allow me to pick one of the shipping addresses assigned to a customer and record this to the Orders. Here are images of what I so far. Any suggestions.

Good morning Carl,  what you are looking for is covered inn the ABCD Database Richard did an awesome job with multiple shipping address and did a follow up with a better shipping label using null math.  The null math removed any 2nd line address if blank giving a better looking address block.  Hope this helps.

Also, look at this video: "Cascading Combo Boxes" in your case. The first combo box will be Customer, and the second combo box will be the Shipping address.

I would recommend a Many-to-Many relationship for your shipping addresses instead of a one to many. Otherwise you might end up with 2 customers having the same shipping address (apartment complex, wanting it shipped to a location other than normal, etc)

Otherwise you'll have duplicate shipping addresses

Hi Carl, each store needs a number or a code for identification.  That is common practice in most industries.  So you need a separate field to store that.  The autonumber field cannot be used for that (see Richard's video "Autonumbers Are Not For You").  You need  actual, human-readable store numbers or codes that can easily be referred to in communications and documents between you and the customers.  That was my experience in my old job.  Some of our customers had hundreds of stores, and they created their own store numbers to keep things organized (see picture below).  And we had to use THEIR store numbers in all the communications and documents between us, so that we would be on the same page.  At some point, you may get a customer who requires that.  But at least you need the ability to store human-usable codes for your ship-tos.

Secondly, you may want to add country and contact info like phone, fax, and email to your ship-tos as well.

Thirdly, your picture shows that your order can only accept one ship-to.  In my experience, an order can have multiple ship-tos as well, because a customer may own multiple stores and want to place a single order for multiple ship-tos, and each ship-to may require different items.  In that case you need an extra table for that store breakdown per order.

Thank you  all very much, We do not ship product as we have an agricultural service business. it is just that sometimes the service is ordered directly by the farmer and sometime they order the service through a Coop. the shipping addresses are the actual jobsite location. We keep track of the Longitude, Latitude in the Description field because sometimes there are as many as 40 different fields that need to be serviced. So they are recorded as line items, quantity is # of acres and unit price is cost per acre.
Thanks for the references, Richard has so many great videos it is hard sometimes to find exactly what you need.
