Understanding a Query
Michael Jones

When I create a query I pull in the tables I need and then the items I need. Everything looks Fine until I run the query.
All the items are there but repeated a number of times.
Trying to understand why.

When I create a report from the query the same thing happens, I only want one line per item.

Can someone please explain why this happens? or what tutorial would explain it.
I am a novice so plain English please.

Hi Michael
One might expect such a repeat when one has a one to many relationship. However; take a look at GROUPING when you do a report. Richard has done many videos demonstrating grouping. If you have 2 tables - one with people and the other with Cars each person owns then when you make a query it will show every person associated with each car. Therefore; you see the person who owns 5 cars showing up 5 time in the query. However; your report has a grouping feature that let's you place each person on a line and then all the cars for that person below. Take a look and let us know if you need further help.
take a look at this techhelp on Report Grouping https://599cd.com/blog/display-article.asp?ID=2237

What are the tables and what do they represent?
