Open PDF to Specific Record

I have a pdf form that I want to incorporate into the database. I started to make a form modeled after the pdf, but it is 4 pages long so there were about 23 fields plus linking 2 different subforms inside as well. Trying to decide if I would be better off storing it outside the database. I would like each record to have it's own copy of the pdf to be able to fill out. Not sure if the "open other programs seminar" can help me with this or if I need to make a report based on broken up tables. Kind of overwhelmed with options and not sure what is best.

You will always be better off, controlling everything with an Access. You don't have to have everything on one form; that would be overwhelming. You can have multiple forms, one leading to the other. All of this will start with a good database design where you design your tables and the most optimum way.

Yep, and further to what Sami said, you can also make sub-reports that you can include inside of a master report. So, if you have lots of different information that has to go into the same report, you can link it all together.

Richard, are there videos of " sub reports in a main report. I will need that soon. What should I pay attention to??? are there any pitfalls ....

Thank you SAmi, we have a video for almost everything. I also need to have vertical lines between my fields in reports so that they are visually the same as in Excel and extend lengthwise depending on the number of records, but Richard doesn't have anything for that yet, he went to look at it, I'm excited about it. :)

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions! Working on splitting up the pdf into multiple forms and making a master report. This really helped detangle my thought process!

I am so glad I found this thread.  I have several complex government forms that I am required to use and which routinely impact my database.  This info will be a huge help!

Richard,

Filling PDF forms from a database would make a great TechHelp video.  More and more government and large businesses are using fill-able forms because they can be 'digitally signed' (a supposedly more secure signature) using either PKI or PGP keys and certificates.  It would be awesome to have a class on how to fill in such PDF forms so that once complete, they could be saved ready for signing.

Follow-up question, to keep my database from getting too large with all the added tables for the pdf (and other stuff). Would it be beneficial to have those tables in a separate back-end and link the tables to the main database? I've heard the term "multiple backends" used and am wondering if that is how it is achieved. Right now I just have my one split database.
Thank you so much!

Please tell me you're not actually storing the PDF files inside the database are you? I feel the same way about that as I do about Images. And attachments are on my Evil list.
