Access Expert 13 Lesson 5

I am super confused. If I use the database supplied from online with the lessons everything works fine for the all paid to be marked shipped. If I use my database with calendar dates, it will not fill in the blank shipping dates. I have attached two images to show. one with the online database dates and the other with mine. One is the one from online if you notice the shipping date filled in with the current date as expected. Does anyone have any ideas?

Top one from online database and the one below is from mine.

So basically order 15 should be marked with a ShipDate and it's not. It's the only paid, non-quotation that doesn't have a ship date. Double-check all your spellings? Field types?

Hi Richard I looked at it and it appears to be correct. I got it to work with your database with ID19 but not with my database for ID15. This is from the OrderT and the new Update for this procedure.

That's weird. Let's see the SQL view of your update query.

Richard, I may be wrong, but after looking at this I have noticed what appears to be a colon immediately behind the last parenthesis of False. Is that there normally on an SQL View? If not how did that get there because it is not showing up in anything I have shared with you so far?

That's normal. It's optional in Access, but it won't hurt anything if it's there. In SQL Server, you can use a ; to delimit separate statements.

I'm stumped. Compact & Repair and try again. Try the first few (easy) things on the troubleshooter and see if the issue goes away. This is a weird one.

Richard, I tried the compact and it did nothing. I tried to find the troubleshooter but never found it. What I decided to try was delete the old UpdateQ and rebuild it and, it now works. ID 15 filled in this time. Like you, I still have no idea what what wrong but this time after remaking it, everything worked. Again, thanks for all your help. Trial and error is always a good way to do things. At least now we both have something that stumped us. Ken

Yeah... that was def weird. And I gave you a link to the troubleshooter. It's just a list to run down to try to get rid of the "crazy" inexplicable stuff that just happens.

Thanks, Richard, and I will keep that handy too. That certainly was a learning experience.

I know it's easier to just get the answers, but honestly the BEST learning method is trying to figure it out yourself. The most memorable learning experiences I've had were figuring something out after pulling my hair out for 2 or 3 hours and then... EUREKA!

In fact, if I could redo my entire course with THAT teaching method, I would... but I don't even know how to begin. LOL

Thanks again. If that ever happens again and I figure out what actually caused it I will be sure to let you know.
