Duplicate Button Not Working
Chris Nichol

Hi everyone! Hope you are all keeping well! So on my database i had a duplicate button which was setup through the "button Wizard" now yesterday it stopped working completely. Every time I press the button a get an error message saying - The command or action 'Paste' isn't available now.
I've tried deleting the button and re-installing it via the wizard but get the same message again.

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

Chris

I'm not seeing any navigation buttons on the bottom of your form. Do you have the ability to go to a blank new record on this form? Did you set it so that you can't add new records? If you can't add a record manually, you can't duplicate the record. Your only alternative at that point will be to use some VBA / SQL to copy the record in the background and then go to that record.

Hi Richard, thanks for getting back to me. I can still add records manually i just can't duplicate them. BUT I've since tried it on another PC and it duplicates on there using the same front end etc. I'm confused!

Many thanks

Chris

Hey Chris, I know this is a few months after you posted it, but I just had another user email me the same question. I did a little research and poking around myself, and it's definitely a problem with the macro. I'm going to be putting together a video on this. Newer versions of Access require a pause right before the paste; otherwise, it doesn't work. Unfortunately, with a macro, there's no way to put a pause in there, but you can fix it with a little bit of VBA code.

    DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSelectRecord
    DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdCopy
    DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec
    DoEvents
    DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdPaste

Like I said, look for a video on this topic soon.
