Cheat Sheet
Tom Iversen

I don't do a lot of VBA yet, but I will for sure in the future.  I have watched Richard fly through some simple commands, and I thought to myself:  You need to find a cheat sheet of basic commands so when you have a need for something special, you can find the command easily.  But when I looked on the web, expecting to easily find a cheat sheet, I could not find one anywhere.  So, I figured I must be asking wrong, or it's top secret stuff.  Question:  Does such a sheet exist?  If so, where would I find one?

It's kind of why I wrote most of the Glossary

I had started writing it as a word document but found this easier to update.
Every time a function etc was covered in a class Id add it.
Think I got to about 200 but havent added any in years.

It can also be a reverse reference of where to find which course the command is used.

You have to create your own cheat sheet.  Whatever you put there, it will not be enough, because programming is too vast a subject to summarize on an index card.  You can, of course, write down only the most frequently needed info.  Different programming languages share many of the same concepts; so if you've learned one, it's easier to learn another.  Intellisense also makes it easier to remember things.  Be sure to include comments in your code, which is the most important "cheat sheet" of all.  Without them, you may not even understand your own code.

Alex's "Glossary" is helpful, but focused mostly on functions.  I get the learning curve thing and the familiarity concept, but I am still shocked there's not a published cheat sheet for just "commonly used" Access VBA commands.  Oh well, I'll start from scratch, just like a pioneer.  Maybe @Richard Ross could publish one for a price - probably worth any reasonable offer.

Can you share an example of what you're after?

Thank you Alex.  I was hoping to find a simple sheet or sheets that listed common (or most used) Access VBA Commands.  Richard has used a few simple ones so far in my studies, like:  DoCmd, MsgBox, ReQuery, etc.  It would be good to have a list of such commands, perhaps organized into function groups, explaining their purpose, with options and syntax.  I know "intellisense" does lay out some of the command options, but you've have to know which command to use to start with.  Richard, in his "Intro to VBA" talk seemed to allude to the lack of this resource when he said "you just gotta learn them" and "you gotta remember them".   The learning part is no problem for me, but the remembering part is getting tougher and tougher with each passing year.  That's the reason I am looking for a cheat sheet.

Could you let me know what the Glossary doesn't have in that respect?
Too many Functions and not enough Commands?

Have you tried using ChatGPT. I got a pretty good list that would get you started.
Copy and paste to MS Word and format the document to make it look good.

This is the prompt I used:

Please compile a cheat sheet for all the most common VBA Properties, Methods, Functions and Commands for Microsoft Access. Please also include all SQL commands that pertain to Microsoft Access.
