Count Records Between Two Dates

Q: I have a bunch of dated invoices. I need to count how many orders were placed between two dates (say, September 1st and September 30th). How can I do this in Excel?

A: You could use the IF function to put a 1 or 0 in the next column to determine whether or not to count this score.

Here's what you can do:

Create two cells in your sheet for a Begin Date and End Date. I'll put them in D1 and D2 respectively (use any you like).

Now, if your date is in column A, then you could say in column B:

=IF(AND(A1>=$D$1,A1<$D$2),1,0)

In English, this says "if A1 is after my start date and before my end date, put a 1 in this cell, otherwise, put a 0 there."

The dollar ($) signs create an ABSOLUTE reference so when you AutoFill this formula down your row, it stays D1 and D2.

Now, just SUM up that column, and you have a count of all of the dates that are between your start and end date.
