IntroIn this lesson, we will learn how to build a guest book for your website using Microsoft FrontPage, including how to let visitors submit their information and comments. We will cover building forms with the form wizard, creating forms from scratch, working with order forms, and using data validation to ensure proper input. We will also talk about advanced controls like command buttons and picture buttons. This lesson uses FrontPage XP 2002, but most of the material applies to FrontPage 2000 and 2003 as well. This is lesson 202.TranscriptWelcome to Microsoft's Front Page 202 Intermediate Front Page, brought to you by 599CD.com. I am your instructor, Richard Rost.Let's talk about the objectives for today's class. Today, we are going to learn how to build a guest book where visitors to your website can enter their name, email address, and some comments, and submit that information. This will go to your website as a recurring guest book. We will talk about building forms using the form wizard. Then, we will learn how to build forms from scratch. We will start from a blank page and build a form, build an order form, with our bare hands from scratch. Next, we will talk about data validation, making sure that users are entering the appropriate data for each field. Then, we will talk about some advanced controls, like the advanced button and the picture button controls. This class follows Front Page 201. If you are taking this class, I strongly recommend you have started with Front Page 101 and then taken 102, 103, and 201. We will be continuing with the website that we started in Front Page 101, our PCRESHELL.net website. We also recommend you take Word 101, Windows 101, Windows 102, or 110. Optionally, we have an HTML 101 class available if you want to learn HTML, which is the language beneath web pages. In class, we will be using Front Page XP 2002. You should be okay if you are using Front Page 2000 or even 2003. If you have still got Front Page 98, you really should consider upgrading. A lot has changed since then. It also does not matter what version of Windows you are using. You should be using 2008, and so on. I recommend you watch each lesson completely through to get a feel for what I am doing. Then, replay the lesson, watch it again, and follow along with the examples. Pause the video as needed, and do the examples as I do them. Do not try to do them the first time watching the video. Watch the video first, get a feel for what I am trying to do, or watch the whole lesson through, and then go through and do the examples. Here is the address for the class web page: 5NNC.com/Front Page/202. Any last-minute information, updates, or changes will be found on that site. QuizQ1. SummaryToday's video from Microsoft Front Page Learning Zone covers the objectives for our Intermediate Front Page 202 course. In this lesson, I will show you how to create a guest book for your website, where visitors can enter their name, email address, and comments. This feature allows submissions to be collected on your site, functioning as a recurring guest book entry system. We'll begin by exploring how to build forms using the form wizard, making the process straightforward and efficient. Once you're familiar with that method, we'll move on to creating forms manually from a blank page. Together, we'll design an order form completely from scratch. Data validation is another important topic in this class. We'll make sure users enter the right type of data in each field to keep your database clean and reliable. After that, I'll introduce you to some advanced controls available in Front Page, like enhanced buttons and picture button controls, adding more functionality to your forms. If you have already completed Front Page 101, 102, 103, and 201, you are in the right place to continue. We'll be working with the same website project we started in Front Page 101, the PCRESHELL.net website. I also suggest you take supporting courses such as Word 101, Windows 101, 102, or 110 as a foundation. If you're interested in understanding the basics of web technology, our optional HTML 101 class is available to show you the language that runs behind web pages. For this class, I will be using Front Page XP 2002. You will also do fine if you are using Front Page 2000 or 2003. However, if you are still using Front Page 98, I highly encourage you to upgrade, since many features have changed in the newer versions. The version of Windows you use does not matter much; you should be fine with any version from 2000 and newer. When approaching each lesson, my advice is to watch it all the way through first to get a feel for the process. Then, replay the lesson, pausing as necessary, and follow along with the examples. Don't try to replicate the steps on your first viewing. Instead, watch the demonstration first, then go back and practice with the examples at your own pace. For updates, last-minute changes, or more information about the class, visit the class web page for Front Page 202 at 599CD.com. You can find a complete video tutorial with step-by-step instructions on everything discussed here on my website at the link below. Live long and prosper, my friends.
