Tech HistoryBy Richard RostThe people, programs, & technology that started it all.
I've been working with computers since the early days of personal computing, and I've seen a lot of technology come and go. Some of it changed the world, some of it faded into obscurity, and some of it still makes me wonder, "Whatever happened to that?" I decided to start this Tech History series to take a look back at the computers, software, companies, and people that helped shape the technology we use today. We'll explore everything from the early days of dial-up bulletin board systems to classic programs like WordPerfect, the rise of Microsoft, and the evolution of personal computing. This isn't going to be a boring history lecture. I want to share the stories behind the technology, including some of my own experiences growing up with computers from the 1970s thru 1990s. We'll talk about what made these technologies special, why some succeeded while others disappeared, and how they influenced what came next. Some of these topics will bring back great memories for those of us who were there. Others might surprise younger viewers who have never experienced a world without smartphones, Wi-Fi, or the internet. Either way, I hope you'll learn something interesting and have a little fun along the way. And I'd love to hear your stories, too! If you remember using any of these old systems or have suggestions for future topics, feel free to join the discussion. Technology has come a long way, and sometimes it's fun to look back and remember how we got here. Oh, and don't forget to click the subscribe button there if you want to get notifications in your email whenever new stuff is posted in this forum.
