Microsoft Raises Prices of MS 365
Richard Rost

Microsoft just raised the price of MS 365 (Office) by $3 per month.

On the one hand, I think that even at the new, higher price, it's still a bargain to get a power suite of applications like Word, Excel, and especially Access for just $15/mo.

On the other hand, their justification for the price increase is that they're adding Copilot AI into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote (notice, not Access, of course - but I've got you covered for that). Personally, I don't use Copilot. I prefer ChatGPT. So for me it's a useless cost increase - although I'll have to make videos on Copilot eventually since, you know, I teach Office.

What are your thoughts?

How long until Copilot gets dumped, like 90% else of Microsoft's new adventures?

Yes, just got the notice this morning.  I was given the option to "opt out" of AI, and stay at my current rate.  Since I have no use for it, that's the route I'll probably take.

It is still good value for my money.

And AI is here to stay. This is not the Clip Helper (for those of you old enough to remember).

Cool. I always like Clippy, 'though he could be annoying at times. LOL

At $180 per year, its getting steep for a casual user.  There are free options that work pretty well.  The Access equivalents seem less user friendly, if they exist, but the excel and word equivalents are an easy transition.

If you have a Windows 365 license, you may be able to install the same license on multiple machines as discussed here.  This helps increase the value.

I'll be honest, I use Google Docs and Sheets a lot. For simple stuff, they're just as good as Word and Excel.

There is no substitute for Access, however. Have yet to see anything close.

And yes, you can install your copy of Office on 5 machines. I think I'm at my limit now. Lol.
