Two More Anniversaries

We celebrated the 20th anniversary of 599cd.com a while back. Today is the 20th anniversary of registering AccessLearningZone.com and my YouTube channel is 19 years old.

Yay! Milestones.

Why "Access Learning Zone?" Well, I wanted something marketable and memorable... and 599cd.com didn't mean much as far as branding goes. All the other good names were taken, so I picked that, and stuck with it. :)

Great job, and glad I discovered you all too! Without your guidance and help, I wouldn't be as far as I am. Continued success for another 20.

Not many small (or even large) businesses hit the 20 year mark. Congrats!

I think I joined in 2003. It has been a great ride. Please don't retire yet!

I have no plans to retire any time soon. Honestly, even if I won the lottery and became independently wealthy, I'd probably still keep doing this. Maybe not quite as much, but I enjoy it too much to walk away from it completely. I'd just do it on my own schedule - when I felt like it.

One thing I've learned over the years is that no matter how much you love something, too much of it can start to feel like a chore. Back in my 30s I joined a men's softball league, and at first it was great fun. Then I joined a second team. Then a third. Before I knew it, I was playing six nights a week. Eventually I'd be floating in the pool on a sunny summer afternoon thinking, "Man, I have to drag myself out and get ready to play ball again in an hour." That's when I realized it was time to scale back.

I'm nowhere near that point with this, but there are mornings when I wake up and think, "You know what? I just don't feel like recording a video today." So maybe I'll tinker with a database project instead, or just relax and watch a Star Trek marathon. And then other days I'll get on a roll and record for 11 hours straight. That's one of the best parts of being self-employed: I get to decide what to do with my day. Like I've said in a lot of my Captain's Log posts, the greatest freedom of working for yourself is the freedom to spend your time how you want.

At least until the bank account starts looking low - then it's back to cranking out another class or two, ha.

Richard Belated happy anniversary.  I'm a bit slow these days. :)
