Preparations are underway this evening for departure on a short but important away mission. I've been assigned to a remote Starfleet outpost located suspiciously close to a major technology hub. Starfleet insists it's a routine knowledge exchange assignment. I suspect otherwise. Whenever they say "routine," it usually involves at least one temporal anomaly, two system failures, a warp core breach, and someone trying to rewrite the laws of physics using a spreadsheet.
Packing has proven to be more complicated than expected. In addition to standard gear, I've had to dig out cold weather equipment. Apparently this region experiences near-constant rain and "temperatures below comfortable." As someone stationed in a tropical environment, this feels both unnecessary and mildly offensive. I'm not convinced I remember how shoes, pants, and long sleeves work, but I'm willing to relearn for the sake of the mission. I'll leave the flip-flops at home.
According to the briefing, the outpost is populated by Starfleet database engineers from a wide range of species, all gathered to exchange technical knowledge and improve systems. That sounds promising, although I've learned that "exchange knowledge" often translates to friendly debates about schema design, indexing strategies, and the proper way to name things that will absolutely never be agreed upon. Still, I'm looking forward to it. There's something comforting about being in a room full of database enthusiasts who all get a little too excited about well structured tables and elegant SQL. Some of these engineers are rumored to have achieved near mythical levels of efficiency, which I fully intend to investigate.
Departure is scheduled for tomorrow morning. With any luck, this mission will be productive, enlightening, and only mildly chaotic. I just hope foot traffic at the starbase isn't too bad. Ever since the Federation outsourced starport security to the Klingons, screening has become... thorough. Last I heard, if your carry-on doesn't survive a bat'leth inspection, it wasn't worthy of travel in the first place. If I make it through without being challenged to honorable combat over my luggage, I'll consider that a win. And if not, I'll document everything for the record. As always.
Seriously, folks, I'm heading up to Redmond, Washington for the annual Microsoft MVP Summit and Access Day. I'll be checking email as often as possible, so I'll try to take care of anything urgent as soon as I can. Any non-urgent issues will be handled when I get back.
Try not to give the moderators a hard time. Clean up after yourself. No parties. And definitely no Tribbles in the lunchroom.
Arrived at the outpost. Cold here. I think I saw the sun for a moment... Will report back later.

I'm glad you bothered to post the second message. It didn't show until I scrolled down, but I was "WTF are you saying?!!!"

Sun is more out that not... at least up north near Everett WA. will be more the same till Tuesday/Wednesday and the rains will return. Cold ... for a Vulcan but.... at least it isn't windy currently.

Seattle has the most cloudy days of any US city. I used to live in #2 (Grand Rapids, MI) and it was brutal.
Definitely give all deference to the special Klingon frozen dihydrogen monoxide agents at the starport. That subspecies tends to be even more aggressive...
Day 4 here and the weather hasn't been that bad. Rained all day yesterday, but it's been about half/half sun and clouds. Windy and cold, though. Not used to these 40 degree days. Brrr...
I'm back. I made it home but I'm not officially "home" until tomorrow. Need a day to decompress after traveling. But yeah I got some new tips and tricks and cool things to teach you guys and fortunately pretty much everything they said at the MVP summit was also talked about at Access Day so there's nothing that I really can't tell you (no NDA stuff).

Always glad to have you back in your command chair!
Yeah, that reminds me of a funny meme I saw years ago. It was like the Enterprise encounters a Star Destroyer, and someone on the Enterprise said they don't even have shields. Picard's like, "Just beam a photon torpedo onto their bridge, lol."
They're both good in their own right. I mean, Star Trek is more actual science fiction, whereas Star Wars is space fantasy, and I like them both for what they are. Well, the original trilogy of Star Wars, everything else after that kind of sucked, but Empire Strikes Back is one of the best movies ever made.
Empire Strikes Back was the first movie I ever saw at the theater without an adult present - my parents dropped off my older brothers and me. It was shortly after my 7th birthday so my oldest brother Rick was 14. Before that the only two movies I'd seen at the theater, that I can remember, were Miracle on 34th Street - one of my bowling team friend's older (adult) step sister took us when I was 5; and I was 3 or 4 when my parents took all 4 of us to the drive-in to watch Jaws.
Anyway, Empire was the first Space fiction/fantasy I'd seen and from there I tried to watch anything I could but growing up in the middle of nowhere and lucky to sometimes get 3 channels I didn't really get to see Star Trek until Wrath of Khan at the theater then that took over but we still didn't have many TV channels until about halfway thru NextGen. We finally moved to where we could get cable just before I graduated from High School so I had a vcr recording everything.

Umpire Strikes Out... I mean Empire Strikes Back was the first movie I got to go to without adult supervision. We were in Utah for some insurance convention my dad went to, in Park city... where everything was expensive and worse when you waz broke. Richard if you haven't found it. The Decon Chamber hosted by Dominic Keating and Connor Trinner recently interviewed Robert Picardo about 1 day after they had found that Star Fleet Accademy would not see a third season.
