That's pretty cool. I honestly am at a point in my life now where I prefer watching stuff at home. You can get a snack whenever you want, pause the movie to go pee, and you don't have to deal with babies crying in the back of the theater, rude people talking, or someone in the row in front of you with their cell phone on during the entire movie.

I used to love going to the movies when I was younger, but now I'd much rather watch it on my big screen at home. If you calculate the distance from your couch to your TV and the size of your TV, mine is actually bigger than a movie theater screen from that perspective, lol.

Plus, there's also the cost. Why spend $100 to go see a movie that you already own on DVD in the theater? I've purchased pretty much every Star Trek movie on DVD except the last couple. Even those I watched in the theater, and I paid to see them on streaming when they finally came out. I own all the VHSs and DVDs for the original series, Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. I didn't buy Enterprise. I think that's when I stopped buying them on DVD.

I'm happy to see Star Trek in any form coming to the theater. I think they need to put together another new movie. The last couple were kinda meh, in my opinion, but it's always good to see new Trek stuff coming out. Thanks for sharing.

I will believe it when I see it. Considering Paramount has no idea what to do with Startrek and it's 60 year old star ship.

Jeffrey well, after flops like Discovery and Starfleet Academy, they've actually got something good going with Strange New Worlds. Not every episode is perfect, but most of them are really good, so if they can just segue that into a Kirk-Spock-Bones prequel series, that would be pretty cool.

Or we could admit that it's finally time to stop milking these classic characters and just come up with another crew. I've always had the idea for an anthology series where every episode could be set in some completely different place and time.

One week you've got an episode set on Voyager, or another one set in the Gamma Quadrant. Another episode deals with Klingons, maybe Ferengi. Every week is different, like a Twilight Zone kind of setup, with completely new characters. They could be lower-decks-type characters from ships we already know. We've seen a few actual episodes like that. There's so much they could do.

They need something like this just to stop going back to reboots and the same old characters again.

I always thought, and still do, that they should have folllowed up on what was called, the follow on from Picard season 3. Picard was not perfect but season 3 was great, even if it was fan fodder. They left it on a cliff hanger and with seven of nine as the captain of the Enterprise - there's series there. Just needs writers who actually understood the legacy and didn't mess about with it.

There was a lot of talk and that is what it was to me. That they would follow up and have a show with 7 as captain. Starfleet Academy cost between 10 M and 20 M an episode. Strange new worlds is 7 to 10 million an episode. It would be nice to know if either show brought more subscribers and if they made money. I feel the classic characters have been milked to much. And if that is all they can work with (please don't reboot next generation). Don't do what Disney has done with Moana and have a live action that did nothing (saw it and didn't care - prefered the animated). A new show with new characters ..... that is what I'd like.

I hate "reboots/re-image" of old series.  Just leave them alone!  For the ST universe, there are so many possibilities, but Paramount, etc. think that if they redo a "classic", everyone will rush to see it and make them "millions"! The last time I was in a theater was to take my youngest son to see the original "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles".  LOL!!!

BTW, I think "Assignment: Earth" would have been a better pairing with "The Voyage Home".  But I guess they picked "The City on the Edge of Forever" for the "romance" aspect.

I'm with you on the reboots, Sam. There is an entire universe to play in, so why keep revisiting the same handful of characters and stories? Give us a new ship, a new crew, and new adventures. Set it wherever you want in the timeline, just don't make it so far in the future that the technology can solve every problem instantly.

I really don't see Seven of Nine as captain of the Enterprise either. I liked her character on Voyager, and she had some interesting angles, but I just can't picture her in that chair.

One reason I liked the original series, and even the good Enterprise episodes, was that the crews couldn't always rely on magic technology. They had to solve problems with judgment, ingenuity, and good storytelling. Too often, especially in Next Generation, they'd spend 40 minutes building a great story and then escape in the last 10 minutes with, "Reverse the polarity of the decoupled plasma conduits," and suddenly everything is fixed. That's just technobabble nonsense.

The 30th-century Discovery and Starfleet Academy setting is too much for me. If you can instantly transport from one room to another, the technology becomes so powerful that it takes away the tension. At that point, the writers have to work twice as hard to create a problem the magic gadgets can't solve.

It's like finding believable villains for Superman that don't involve kryptonite. Very difficult to do. If I were to reboot Superman, I wouldn't make him quite as super.
