What happens to the new system you've devised, in one of those Florida Hurricanes?
Reply from Richard Rost:
That's a good question, Steve. As it is right now, all of the user accounts and course information are stored on the main web server at GoDaddy. So if my office network goes down for any reason, and you ALREADY have an account, there will be no interruption in your service. NEW orders have to get processed by my office server, however, so there will be a wait for that.
One of my goals for the next couple of months is to set it up so that even new orders are processed completely on the web server, and my office server just pulls them down as a "backup" copy, but isn't really required for everything to work. I aim to get this finished before hurricane season starts.
Everything's on battery backup right now, so if there's a power outage, I've got about an hour of battery power. Beyond that, I have a generator I can plug in if it's going to be an extended outage. I plan to have a "whole house" backup generator installed over the next couple of months too, so that should keep me up and running.
