The new mic does have more clarity on the high end vs the old mic. The advantage to the old mic was it didn't pick up the background noise as much. Since you're getting a new-new-mic, I'm curious how that one will sound.
I think you have a gate effect in your recording software. It cuts out when you're quiet, which was likely the effect that made you think there was a short in your headset. If there was a short, there would be pops and crackling sounds. It's noticeable with the background noise of the JOUNIVO mic cutting out when you're not talking.
When you get the TONOR mic, since it has a cardioid polar pattern, it will reject sound from the back. So wherever you place it on your desk, if you point the back of the microphone towards your loudest sounds (computer fan noise) it will help reject that sound. I'm curious how the noise cancellation feature will do. Maybe it will be good enough on its own.
They are thinking the new more expensive mic will not have as much noise associated with it. I have a decent sized fan sitting right next to my computer to keep it cool so I'm sure it's picking up some of that noise as well and the headset mic didn't get all that. We'll find out next week.
