I finally heard back from a rep at GoDaddy that knew what I was talking about. They confirmed that you need one of their Dedicated Servers or Virtual Dedicated Servers to run Sharepoint Services. The cheapest is about $30 a month.
I'm looking into the two places that Alex mentioned. I'd love to have a preferred service provider ready so that when I release my Sharepoint Seminar, I can have a hosting package (hopefully with a discount) that I can recommend to my students. That way I can say, "ho here, sign up for this, and here's how to use it."
Of course, I could always set up Sharepoint in my office... but I'm still running Windows 2000 Server here (hey, it works GREAT and is tweaked to my perfection) and it doesn't come with Sharepoint... so I'd have to upgrade to Windows 2008 Server and that's more work that I want to do right now... plus that doesn't give me a solution for YOU.
Besides... having a web site hosted by someone else is the way to go. That way you don't have to worry about up-time, server room temperature, ISP problems, and all that stuff. If something goes wrong you just call them and say "FIX IT!!!"
