I undertand that VB 6 is no longer sold by Microsoft, but is still good for Access, what is VB.Net and do you recommend starting and learning it and why?

Access uses VBA, not VB6.
Definitely learn VB.Net if you are interested in building stand-alone applications.
You can take what you have learned in most of Richard's VB6 classes. There are different Properties, Methods and Events and some different syntax, but I'm sure you will learn the differences. Remember if you need help or have any other questions, just ask. Visual Basic Forum
Alex has started some VB.NET classes. Great place to start. VB.NET Beginner 1
