Our academic system rewards people who know a lot of stuff... but at the end of the day who do you want: the person who can figure things out that they've never seen before or the person who can rattle off a bunch of facts?

Richard v Milton

Well, Milton took a few sections of my fence, but aside from that, no damage that I can see. Never lost power for more than a few seconds, so that generator came in handy. But, like I always say, better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Going to take the day today to put all my stuff back outside (furniture, solar lights, etc.) so this hurricane business needs to stop for the rest of the year, mmmkay?

Back to blue skies and sunshine today. I love SW Florida. I'll take the occasional hurricane over 9 months of Buffalo winter anytime.

Glad y'all are okay. Hate you had damage, but glad it was just your fence.

Get your fence out of the neighbor's yard and mow the lawn. Florida slackers!

Glad to hear it.  News last night played a video from a doorbell camera in Fort Meyers of a a tornado.  Guess that wasn't yours.

You could try Seattle, no seasonal weather events here, but you could get wiped out by a volcano, tsunami, or earthquake with little to no warning.

Yeah, I'll stick with my hurricanes, thanks. There were 3 confirmed tornadoes in Cape Coral yesterday (where I live).

Florida experienced at least 12 confirmed tornadoes from Hurricane Milton, with the number expected to increase as assessments continue. The storm resulted in at least 11 deaths across the state, and power outages affected approximately 3.4 million homes and businesses. The damage was significant, with several areas reporting severe impacts from both tornadoes and the storm's strong winds and storm surge. -WSVN 7 News

From what I've seen on TV, most of the deaths from hurricanes are from people who either live in flood zones and don't evacuate before the storm surge, or who live in trailer homes and don't evacuate from the high winds. In either case, you have got to listen to the evacuation warnings!
