I'm supposed to be packing for my trip but I had an idea for a cool Access feature. This video explains it, so I'm posting this here to see if there's interest...
Have you ever wanted to give your users the ability to customize the layout of forms to suit their needs? For example, they might want to move the Customer ID field to the left, rearrange other fields, or adjust the positioning of controls like checkboxes, buttons, or notes fields. This feature allows users to do exactly that.
With layout mode enabled, users can select any field on the form and adjust its position using the keyboard. Fields can be moved up, down, left, or right, and even grouped items like buttons can be repositioned easily. While this example only involves moving controls, you could also extend the functionality to allow resizing or other customizations by modifying the VBA code.
When the user finishes rearranging the form, they have the option to save their changes. If they choose to save, the custom layout is stored in a settings table. The next time they open the form, their personalized layout will be restored automatically.
This feature involves significant VBA coding and is too advanced for a quick TechHelp video. If there's enough interest, I'll include it in one of my Developer lessons. If not enough Developer students are interested, I may turn it into a standalone seminar.
If this is something you'd like to learn more about, let me know. I'd love to hear your thoughts and see if this would be valuable for you.
