Transcript Welcome to Microsoft Word 101: Introduction to Word, brought to you by MyOnlineLearningPartner.com and 599CD.com.

I am your instructor, Richard Rost, and you can reach me at [email protected].

Let's talk about the objectives for today's class.

We are going to learn about Microsoft Word. We are going to cover the parts of the screen. We are going to show you how to enter and edit text.

We are going to create a basic business letter in today's class. We are going to teach you how to format text, change fonts, use bold, italics, and underline, change colors, and similar tasks.

We are going to teach you how to cut, copy, and paste so you can edit your documents. We are going to show you how to save your document to your computer's hard drive and then load it back up again. We are going to teach you how to print your document.

Our goal for today's class is to get you up and running quickly. We will cover more details in future classes. Our goal with most of our 101-level courses is to get you up to speed fast.

We want to get you in today, get you typing up a business letter, get you editing your document and saving your document, and teach you how to print your document. We will go over a lot of the details in our future classes. By the end of today, you should be able to create a business letter and then print that letter.

Prerequisites: If you are taking this class, we are assuming that you know the material from our Windows 101 and either our Windows 102 or 110 classes.

Windows 101 is our intro to PCs. Windows 102 is intro to Windows 98. Or, if you have Windows XP, take our Windows 110 class.

Basically, we assume that you are familiar with Windows, know how to use the mouse and keyboard, and that you know how to type.

In class, we are going to be using Microsoft Word XP and our operating system is Windows XP. Most of what we cover in this class, however, is valid regardless of what version of Word and Windows you have.

You should be able to follow along with this class even if you are using Windows 95 and Microsoft Word 97 or 2000. Most of the material is the same.

Summary Today's video from Word Learning Zone is an introduction to Microsoft Word, designed to help you get started with the essentials of word processing. I am your instructor, Richard Rost, and as always, you can reach me by email if you have any questions.

In this lesson, we will focus on getting acquainted with Microsoft Word, starting with a tour of the main parts of the screen. I will guide you through the basics of entering and editing text, so you will feel confident working within a Word document.

A key part of this session is creating a basic business letter from start to finish. We will practice formatting text, which includes changing fonts, adjusting font sizes, applying bold, italics, and underline, as well as experimenting with text colors and other simple formatting options.

I will also show you essential editing tools such as cut, copy, and paste, so you can make changes to your documents quickly and easily. You will learn how to save your documents to your computer's hard drive, how to load them back up in the future, and how to print your finished work.

The aim of today's class is to get you up and running as fast as possible. While we will save more advanced topics for future courses, my goal is to make sure that by the end of this lesson, you are able to produce a business letter, save your work, edit it as needed, and print the final version.

Before you take this class, it is important that you are already familiar with some basics. I expect you to know the material from our Windows 101 course, as well as either Windows 102 or Windows 110. Windows 101 teaches the fundamentals of personal computers. Windows 102 covers Windows 98, and Windows 110 is designed for Windows XP users. In short, you should be comfortable using Windows in general, know how to use a mouse and keyboard, and be able to type.

For this course, I will be using Microsoft Word XP on a Windows XP computer. However, almost all the topics we cover will apply to earlier versions of Word and Windows, such as Word 97, Word 2000, and even versions running on Windows 95. The fundamentals remain largely the same, so you should have no trouble following along regardless of your software version.

You can find a complete video tutorial with step-by-step instructions on everything discussed here on my website at the link below. Live long and prosper, my friends.
