Welcome to 2022 By Richard Rost 2 years ago Howdy folks. I hope everyone had a good New Year. Welcome to 2022. I took a short break from work, which is why you haven't seen anything from me in the past week, but I'm back, and I've got lots planned for the upcoming year. While I'm always going to continue to make new videos for Microsoft Access, because that's definitely what I do best, I'm also going to try to get some new videos recorded for Word, Excel, Windows 11, and the rest of the Office family. Lots of people have been asking me about them, so they're definitely on the calendar. Hang in there. I'm also going to be continuing my work on the ABCD, as well as finishing the Easy Access POS that I started a while back. People have been asking about those too. Don't worry. They're coming. If you have any special requests for things you'd like to see, feel free to post them below. I wish I could add more hours to the day. It seems by the time I answer emails and handle other "administrative stuff" I need to for the day, the day's almost over. I've been reading a lot about business leaders of the past who were really good at what they did, but found that "running the business" began to take over their lives and they had less and less time to do what they wanted to do... what made their business great in the first place. I fell into that trap with my first business (PC sales & service back in the 90s). I started hiring employees to do the computer stuff while I focused on running the business, and I wasn't happy at all after a while. I liked the tech stuff and interacting with customers. I hated being a manager... and I swore I would never hire employees ever again. That's why I'm so grateful to my site Admin (Alex) and Moderators (Adam, Scott, and Kevin). You guys take a HUGE load off my shoulders by helping all the other students. Thank you so much! So... I do what I can do, which seems like it's only a little bit every day... but I make what progress I can. I've got lots of ideas for grand projects, but there never seems to be enough time to do them all. I really love recording the TechHelp and Fast Tips videos. They're a lot of fun. Believe it or not though, recording a 10 minute TechHelp video is about 2 to 3 hours of work. Between preparation, putting the slides together, recording the actual video (sometimes running through it once first), editing, publishing it to YouTube, my web site, posting it around on social media... that's half of a day. Fast Tips usually take at least an hour (for a 5 minute video). A full one-hour course (like Access Beginner 3 or something like that) is a good week's worth of work. It took me several weeks to re-record Access Beginner 1. OK, enough ranting. LOL. I just wanted to let you guys know that I've got a lot planned and I'm going to try to get as much of it done this year as I can... one day at a time. Don't ask me for release dates, though. I'm not very good at sticking to schedules. Invariably it always happens when I give people a date that a particular class is going to be released "something" comes up. Whether it's a web site problem I have to deal with, or some other kind of issue. I can't stick to release dates. That's another reason why I don't like one-on-one consulting and quit doing that last year. People want projects by a certain date. I've always had a problem delivering on time... usually because I start working on a project, like a customer's database, and I end up adding way more stuff to it than I planned, just to see if I could. Ha ha. You've seen me in my videos. "Ooohhh... what if we did this...?" So, happy New Year to everyone. Stick around. There's lots more to come...
