Intro In this lesson, you will learn how to repair damaged photographs using Adobe Photoshop 7. We will cover tools like the clone stamp, healing brush, patch tool, and pattern stamp, including how to make your own patterns and fix red eye. This intermediate course builds on lessons from Photoshop 101-103, and demonstrates practical techniques that work in most versions of Photoshop. This is lesson 201.
Transcript Welcome to Photoshop 201 Intermediate Photoshop. Brought to you by 599city.com. I'm your instructor, Richard Rost.

The objective for today's class is to learn how to fix damaged photographs. Whether you've got photographs with scratches in them or the color is bad, or even if you've got objects you want to remove from your photograph, we are going to learn a lot of different tools today that will teach us how to do these things.

We are going to learn about the clone stamp tool, the healing brush, the patch tool, the pattern stamp tool, how to make our own patterns, and how to correct red eye.

Pre-requisites: We strongly recommend that before taking this class, you take Photoshop 101, 102, and 103. We will be building on some of the techniques we learned in these classes.

In this class, we will be using Adobe Photoshop 7 and Windows XP. The version of Windows that you're using does not matter, and you should find that most of the examples in today's class will be valid for just about every version of Photoshop.

We recommend that you watch each lesson completely through, and then watch the lesson again, following along with the examples. You will get a lot more out of this class if you actually do the examples that I do.

If you use the sample files that we have for this class, and do the edits that we show you, you'll get a lot more out of it. The sample files for this class are on our website. There are too many of them to include on the CD, so we put them all up on our website. Just go to 599c.com/photoshop/201. You'll find all of the sample images on our website, and in class we'll go over how to download them.

Most importantly, have fun. After you do the sample lessons that we have for you, go through and do some basic edits using the techniques from today's class on pictures of your own. I'm sure you've got photos that you want to fix.

Summary Today's video from Photoshop Learning Zone focuses on intermediate techniques for fixing damaged photographs. I am Richard Rost, your instructor for this course.

The main goal for this lesson is to help you correct various problems you may find in your photographs, such as scratches, poor color quality, or unwanted objects that you want to remove. To handle these challenges, I will walk you through several useful tools in Photoshop. We will cover the clone stamp tool, the healing brush, the patch tool, the pattern stamp tool, how to create your own patterns, and ways to fix red eye problems.

Before you take this class, I strongly suggest that you complete Photoshop 101, 102, and 103. This lesson continues from the techniques and skills developed in those earlier courses.

In this class, I am using Adobe Photoshop 7 on a Windows XP system. The specific version of Windows you use is not important, and most of the examples demonstrated will work in nearly every version of Photoshop.

To get the most out of this lesson, I recommend watching each segment first in its entirety, then watch it again and follow along step by step, applying the skills to the same examples. Doing these exercises along with me will help you learn the material much more effectively.

There are sample files available for this class, which you can use for practice as you follow the lessons. Because there are many sample images, they were placed on our website rather than included with the CD. You can find all the files at 599c.com on the Photoshop 201 page. I will also show how to download them during the class.

Above all, try to make this a fun experience. After working through the provided exercises, I encourage you to try out the editing techniques on your own photos. Chances are you have pictures at home with issues you would like to fix.

You can find a complete video tutorial with step-by-step instructions on everything discussed here on my website at the link below. Live long and prosper, my friends.
