If you're still using an older version of Microsoft Office, there is a new Compatibility Pack that allows you to open Office 2007 files.

As they put it, you can: Open, edit, and save documents, workbooks, and presentations in the file formats new to Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007.
