For me life is continuously being hungry. The meaning of life is not simply to exist, to survive, but to move ahead, to go up, to achieve, to conquer.

Amicron Update does NOT Have a Virus
By Richard Rost   Richard Rost on LinkedIn Email Richard Rost   19 years ago

One of my good customers, Bob, informed me that McAfee VirusScan was reporting one of my 599CD programs as a virus/trojan. He emailed me over a copy of the report, and yup, there it was.

I can assure everyone that my software is NOT infected with a virus, trojan, spyware, adware, or anything nasty. Here's what the problem is:

When you install the new Amicron Video Player, a registration screen appears. When you fill in your information and hit SUBMIT, this info is sent to my web site if you're online. This is the whole point of registering... so we can keep in touch with each other.

One of the check-boxes on the registration form says, "notify me of any updates." If you leave this box checked, my software will run a little program I created called UpdateNotice. It will load with Windows and sit in the background, checking my site for any updates (software updates, new courses, etc.) and pop up a little message if anything is new. Other programs do this all the time: Windows Update, Office Update, even McAfee's own program has this feature.

But, since McAfee VirusScan doesn't recognize my program, it's throwing up a red flag.

So, if you run a virus scan on your machine, and your scanner tells you that C:\Program Files\599CD\UpdateNotice.EXE is a virus or trojan, just ignore it. I promise you, it's perfectly safe.

Why did I create this program? Honestly, I have a ton of customers - over 20,000 of them right now - and a lot of them have email addresses that are no longer valid. When email bounces back to me undeliverable, the only way I have to get in touch with them is to physically mail them a letter.

The UpdateNotice program allows me to keep my customers informed of any new releases - and if their email address has changed, they will still get the info.

Now, if you DON'T want this UpdateNotice feature on your computer, don't worry... all you have to do is delete that UpdateNotice.EXE file, and it won't load any more. Also, if you uninstall my Amicron Video Player software, that file will go away too.
