Transcript Welcome to Microsoft Word 2007, Basic Level 3, brought to you by WordLearningZone.com. I am your instructor, Richard Rost. Today's class will cover page setup, including the Page Layout tab, margins, paper size and orientation, columns, page breaks, line numbers, hyphenation, and lots more.

We will cover page backgrounds, including watermarks, page colors and borders, paragraph layout, indenting left and right, fine-tuning your indenting, and modifying the spacing before and after a paragraph. We will also discuss inserting pages, including the cover page gallery and inserting a blank page inside your document.

For hyperlinks, we will learn about automatic hyperlinks and how to make manual hyperlinks to email addresses, web pages, or other documents on your computer.

In headers and footers, we will look at the header and footer section of the page, the header and footer style gallery, and manually editing the header and footer. You will learn how to add page numbers to your documents.

We will also learn how to work with tables: inserting a table into our document, setting up rows and columns, inserting and deleting rows and columns, cell alignment, and manually resizing rows and columns in our table.

This lesson uses Microsoft Office Word 2007. If you are using Word 2003 or earlier, then you should visit my website and look for my Word tutorials that cover these older versions.

This class follows Word 2007 Basic Level 2. In that class, we covered Word views, Font Group commands, paragraph formatting, the Format Painter, styles and the Style Gallery, find and replace, and shrink to fit. It is strongly recommended that you take Level 2 before taking this class. If you do not know how to do any of the things I just mentioned, you really should consider taking Level 2 first.

This is the Basic Level 3 course for Microsoft Word 2007. This class is for the novice user who has little or no experience with Word beyond my Level 1 and 2 classes. My basic courses are designed for novice users who are new to Microsoft Word and just need to learn basic functionality. You will learn one good method for accomplishing most tasks, and we will save all the extraneous details for later.

The Expert Series is designed for users who are more comfortable with Word and want to learn more about the standard features and functions that most people use. We cover a lot of options, alternatives, shortcuts, tips and tricks, and really cover all the features of Word exhaustively.

Our Advanced Series is designed to teach you all the lesser-known features of Word, such as recording macros and creating data forms. These are features that not everyone uses on a daily basis but can really add power to your documents.

Finally, the Developer Series is designed to teach you how to program in Visual Basic for Applications with Microsoft Word to develop Word-based programs for your users, integrate Word with other Office applications, and so much more.

Each of my series is broken down into different levels. For example, the Basic Series started with Level 1, then Level 2, now Level 3 (that's this class), and next will come Level 4 and 5 and so on. Each level teaches you new and different topics in Microsoft Word, building on the lessons learned in previous levels.

Now let's take a more detailed look at what we are going to learn today.

In Lesson 1, we are going to learn about page setup. We are going to study the Page Layout tab and the Page Setup group. We are going to learn about margins, page orientation, paper size, and columns.

In Lesson 2, continuing with page setup, we are going to learn about page breaks, deleting page breaks, and column breaks.

In Lesson 3, we are going to learn about line numbering, automatic hyphenation, and how to give our newsletter that newspaper column look.

In Lesson 4, we are going to learn about different page background options such as creating a watermark, changing the page color, and setting up page borders.

In Lesson 5, we are going to study paragraph layout. We are going to learn more about indenting, fine-tuning our indents, right-side indents, and we are going to see how to manipulate the spacing before and after our paragraphs.

In Lesson 6, we are going to move to the Insert tab and look at the Pages group. I am going to show you the cover page gallery, how to insert a complete blank page, and another page break button.

In Lesson 7, we are going to learn about inserting hyperlinks: automatic hyperlinks that Word inserts for you, manual hyperlinks that we will create ourselves, hyperlinks to web pages and email addresses, and we are going to see how to create a watermark. This includes email addresses, documents, files on your hard drive, files on your network, and more.

In Lesson 8, we are going to learn how to insert a header and a footer for each page in our document. We are also going to learn about page numbering, so you can see page 1, page 2, and so on.

In Lesson 9, we are going to learn the basics of tables. I am going to teach you how to insert a table into your document. We will see how to use the Table Styles gallery, change the table colors, data entry, how to insert and delete rows and columns, and manipulate cell alignment.

If you need help with Microsoft Word, you can post your questions in our student forums. If you are watching this course using our video player software or in our online theater, then you should see the student forum pop up next to each video. Here you will see all the comments and questions posted about each lesson in addition to my responses to them. Feel free to join in the discussion and post your own thoughts.

To get the most out of this course, I recommend you sit back, relax, and watch each lesson once through without touching your computer. Then watch the lesson a second time, following along with my examples. Take the time to actually create the same document that I do. You will get the most out of the lessons if you follow along with me.

If you do not understand something, feel free to watch the lesson again or rewind to any point in the video.

Most importantly, keep an open mind. New things are often confusing, and if there is something you do not understand at first, that is okay. Just be patient and it will come to you eventually. Try your best, and if you still have questions, post them in the student forum.

Summary Today's video from Word Learning Zone focuses on Microsoft Word 2007, Basic Level 3. I will be guiding you through a range of essential page setup and formatting tools within Word to help you produce more professional documents.

We begin by exploring the Page Layout tab, where you will learn how to adjust margins, choose the appropriate paper size and orientation, and work with columns to organize your text more efficiently. I will also explain how to insert and manage page breaks, use line numbers, set up automatic hyphenation, and give your document that classic newspaper-style column layout.

Next, I will introduce ways to enhance your page's background, like adding watermarks for branding or confidentiality, changing the page color for visual appeal, and applying page borders to give your document an extra touch of style.

We will explore paragraph layout in detail. You will see how to indent paragraphs from the left and right, fine-tune those indents for precise formatting, and adjust the spacing before and after each paragraph to improve readability.

If you need to insert special pages, you will learn how to use the cover page gallery, insert blank pages in the middle of an existing document, and work efficiently with page insertion tools on the Insert tab.

On the topic of hyperlinks, you will discover how Word can automatically generate clickable links for web addresses and emails. I will also show you how to create custom hyperlinks for web pages, email addresses, other documents, and network files, making your documents interactive and connected.

Headers and footers are powerful tools for adding consistent information across your pages. We will explore how to use the built-in header and footer galleries, edit them manually to fit your needs, and insert page numbers so your document stays organized and easy to navigate.

I will also teach you the basics of working with tables in Word. You will learn to insert tables, set up and modify rows and columns, change cell alignment, and resize table elements to fit your data clearly and attractively.

This class is specifically designed for those who have already completed my Word 2007 Basic Level 2 course. If you are new to Word or have not taken the previous levels, I strongly recommend starting with Level 1 and 2. These courses introduce critical concepts such as views, font and paragraph formatting, the Format Painter, working with styles, and using find and replace tools. A solid grasp of these skills will make learning Level 3 much easier.

The course is aimed at novice users who want to build a solid foundation in Word. Each lesson focuses on a single effective method for completing tasks, avoiding unnecessary complications. For those interested in a deeper understanding of Word's features, my Expert Series covers alternative techniques, shortcuts, and advanced features. The Advanced Series goes further, into areas like macros and data forms, while the Developer Series introduces Visual Basic programming for those who want to customize and automate workflows in Word.

Each series is divided into levels, and this Level 3 course builds directly on what was taught before. Later levels expand further to ensure continued learning and mastery.

Here is a breakdown of the lessons in this class:

Lesson 1 focuses on page setup, covering the Page Layout tab and Page Setup group, margins, orientation, and columns.

Lesson 2 continues with page setup, introducing page breaks, deleting page breaks, and managing column breaks.

Lesson 3 covers line numbering and automatic hyphenation to give text a professional, print-ready look.

Lesson 4 discusses page backgrounds, including how to create watermarks, adjust page color, and add borders.

Lesson 5 focuses on paragraph formatting, specifically indenting and adjusting spacing before and after paragraphs.

Lesson 6 demonstrates how to insert cover pages, add blank pages, and use page break tools from the Insert tab.

Lesson 7 looks at hyperlinks, both automatic and manual, so you can integrate your documents with websites, email, and files stored locally or on a network.

Lesson 8 introduces headers and footers, along with adding page numbers for document organization.

Lesson 9 explains how to create and format tables, including style options, color changes, data entry, adding or deleting rows and columns, along with cell alignment.

If you have questions while taking the course, you are welcome to post in the student forums. The forums can be accessed when using the online course player, putting you in touch with other students and allowing for discussion and clarification.

To learn most effectively, I suggest watching each lesson all the way through initially. Then, watch a second time while following along and creating the same examples yourself. Practicing as you follow makes the lessons much more meaningful and memorable.

If something is unclear, do not hesitate to rewind and watch again. Patience and repeated practice are very important when learning something new. Making use of the student forums is a great way to get help and interact with others who are learning at the same time.
