Out of the Office Until Tuesday
Richard Rost

It feels a little weird having to post an out-of-office notice just for being gone over the weekend, but here we are. Believe it or not, I'm actually taking the weekend off. Well... mostly. I am working this morning. But after that, I'm heading out to spend some time with the wife and try to disconnect for a bit.

So I'll be out of the office the rest of today, tomorrow, and Monday. Back Tuesday afternoon.

If you know me, you know that weekends usually are workdays. That's just how it goes when you're self-employed. If I'm home, I'm usually working. Even if it's just catching up on emails, customer service, content planning, or poking at the website. When your name is on the business, your hours aren't exactly 9 to 5. Or 5 to 9. Or even human.

Being self-employed is both a blessing and a curse. When you work for someone else, there's a place you go. You clock in, do the job, and (in theory) leave it behind when you clock out. Sure, plenty of people still take their jobs home, but when it's your company, you carry it around in your head constantly. There's no off switch. Even when I'm sitting on a beach somewhere, I've got one eye on my phone, checking the site or answering emails.

So this weekend, I'm going to do my best to shut that all off and just enjoy some time with my wife. No databases. No email. No videos. Just some much-needed rest and a chance to recharge.

We all need time off sometimes whether it is to unwind and recalibrate, or watch Star Trek (or Buffy The Vampire Slayer). Time to just relax is a must. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

I sense a growing trend of slacking off here. :P
You must be counting on those 2 cent retirement checks coming in.
