Both of my grandfathers were in WWI. One didn't want to talk about it. The other one went through life with the shell shock in his eyes. I remember the latter waking me up in the night with the screams he made from his horrible nightmares. This was forty plus years after the war ended in 1918.
Some say that most days in the trenches were as bad or worse than D-Day. Both grandfathers suffered from the gas attacks. I'm only now beginning to understand the horror they went through.
Yeah, war is definitely hell. I've read some stories about what those guys went through. I don't think I'd have that kind of mettle.

And yet, here in the U.S. we're becoming numb, watching in 2025 an entire nation being eradicated, talking about ethnic cleansing, as if it is a reward for their suffering.

Current statistics show Veterans suicide average 16x a day. For a multitude of reasons. Depression, PTSD, divorce, transition back to civilian life etc. Alarmingly, over 40% of those suicides are by veterans who have never deployed. No research indicates why.
