Happy Labor Day, Everyone!

I hope you're enjoying the long weekend.

Personally, I make it a rule not to travel during the big holiday rushes like Labor Day, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. Too many people, too much stress, and the airports are chaos. Unless it's just a short local drive here in Florida, I'm not going anywhere.

I'm done with heading up north for the holidays or battling those extended weekend crowds. For me, it's about spending the day with the wife and the dogs, relaxing around the house, and keeping it simple.

How about you guys? What did you get up to this weekend?

P.S. When I say "everyone" I really mean everyone here in the US. I know other countries have their own Labor Days too, but honestly, you guys probably don't need a holiday to remind you of labor rights. Your governments already give you things like paid leave and decent protections. Here, we get a parade and a mattress sale. If you have a Labor Day in your country, what do you call it?

I'm trying to think of a holiday, other than one for Colombian independence and a battle won that isn't some homage to a weird saint or virgin myth.

I spent too many years traveling in my "younger" days so I like to just stay at home.  Depending on the holiday, I'll watch an "old" movie that aligns with the holiday (A Christmas Carol, Sargent York, Independence Day (yes its sci-fi about fighting aliens, but that speech by Bill Pullman!!!), etc.)  LOL!!!

Every time I see Bill Pullman, I just can't help but think... LONE STARR!!!

And I have been a huge fan of this movie since it came out in 1987. Today I just learned that that's how his name is spelled, according to the IMDB and the Spaceballs Wiki.

I hope and pray that Spaceballs 2 is a worthy successor.  "May the schwartz be with you!" :-)

I'm pretty stoked that John Candy's son is in the movie as a mog. That's going to be cool.

The funny thing about the impending Spaceballs 2 release, is that literally the day before it was announced as being produced, I had gotten my boss on the old joke from shortly after Spaceballs was released. I had told him I had heard that Spaceballs 3 was coming out, and of course he was confused because he hadn't seen Spaceballs 2 until I explained the old joke of "Spaceballs 3 - The Search for Spaceballs 2". Yeah, I know that's an old one.

But then the next day, I saw the public release about the real Spaceballs 2 and would you believe he didn't believe me when I told him, lol.

Also, a little Spaceballs trivia, before releasing Spaceballs, Mel Brooks asked permission of George Lucas for spoofing Star Wars. Lucas said he didn't mind and in fact looked forward to it, his only ask was that the main character was not dressed/made to look like Han Solo - So Brooks dressed him like Indiana Jones instead.

Richard Good philosophy.  I didn't do much special over the Labor Day Holiday.

We stayed home but our daughter came to visit. I’m away this weekend, stuck at the airport in a delayed flight. My wife works in a school, so aside from summer, we have to travel on holidays; she only gets 2 personal days a year.

Only two? Wow! That's harsh.

Richard She does get a lot of holidays. It’s just not flexible. And, you know, summer (here on Cape Cod!).

Michael - I've never actually been to Cape Cod. I've been all over New England from Maine to Vermont to New Hampshire. I've been briefly through Boston, and I've always wanted to go out and visit Cape Cod, but I never made it out that way.

The Cape is like a giant retirement community. Lots of “senior” (usually defined as over 50) activities. I play senior volleyball 2 hrs twice a week, year round indoors. There’s curling, softball, pickleball, nature hikes— on and on. Nice place but wicked expensive. Give me a shout if you ever decide to visit. Fall is best, after the tourists have gone 😃

Lots of seniors? Sounds like SW Florida. LOL. Definitely will give you a shout if we come up that way.
