Just a quick Captain's Log today. The wife and I are heading down to Naples to see a Rush cover band called The Signals - they bill themselves as a Rush tribute musical experience, and I'm really looking forward to it.
Nothing compares to seeing the actual band live, of course, but I love going to see tribute bands whenever I can. I've seen The Ultimate Rush Tribute Band a couple of times, YYNOT, and Rushour - all excellent. Seems like more and more Rush tributes are popping up lately, and most of them are pretty impressive. You've got to be seriously good to pull off Rush - it's not music you can fake your way through.
Back when I was in a band in the late 80s and early 90s, we tried a couple of Rush songs - the easy ones like Roll the Bones and Dreamline. That was around the time the Roll the Bones album came out, so it made sense. But the really intricate stuff? Forget it. No one in our group was taking on 2112 or La Villa Strangiato.
Anyway, just wanted to check in and say hi before the weekend. I'm gonna finish recording today's Quick Queries video and then I'm out - faster than a Neil Peart riff...
They were really good. It wasn't really as much of a concert as it was, more like them playing in a high school auditorium. Very small crowd, but these guys were excellent musicians. I'm going to do a full write-up of them later and post some videos.
