Lately I've been getting a bunch of emails and mentions from people telling me the same thing: they love putting my videos on in the background while they're working, or just listening while they're driving. And honestly, that makes total sense, especially for my Quick Queries videos.
Quick Queries are more "talking and explaining" than "watch me click this button on the screen," so they actually work really well as audio-only content. You can treat them like little Access mini-podcasts.
So I decided to start posting my Quick Queries to Spotify.
The nice thing about Spotify is it doesn't just live on Spotify. It also feeds a bunch of other services you might already use like Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, and more. So if you've got a podcast app or something you already listen to shows on, you'll be able to find me there too.
My plan (at least for now) is to start posting the weekly Quick Queries episodes there so you can listen without needing to fire up YouTube. I'll drop the relevant links below so you can subscribe using whatever app or service you prefer.
I do the same thing myself. When I'm out on my evening walk, I listen to StarTalk with Neil deGrasse Tyson. And at night, I always listen to Kosmo on YouTube because he's got that calm voice that's basically a sleep spell. I always fail my Savings Throw. Nerds get that reference - and most of you are nerds, which I love.
Now I'm not saying I'm going to put anybody to sleep... because of my witty charm and humor (obviously)... but if you want easy Access listening while you're driving, working, or doing chores around the house, this should make things a lot easier.
P.S. There are some other services that Spotify pushes to that I've never heard of like Castbox, Goodpods, Overcast, and Pocket Casts. I didn't bother taking the time to set those up, but if you use one of those, post a comment below. Maybe I'll take the time to set it up.
P.P.S. I'll also put lessons that are more explainer and less watch the screen up there too... like SQL Server for Access Users B1 L1.
Spotify doesn't really pay based on "clicks" but on actual streams (someone has to listen for a bit, not just tap it). And the payout varies a lot depending on whether it's treated like music streaming vs a monetized podcast with ads. Using the typical rough estimates people throw around, it usually works out to only a few bucks per thousand plays, so to hit $1,000,000 you're generally talking on the order of a couple hundred million streams (like 200 to 350 million). If it's monetized as a podcast with ads, the math can be better, but you're still usually looking at tens of millions of listens, not a few thousand.
And since I'm nowhere near that level of earnings even on YouTube (and I've got a quarter million subscribers there already), it'll probably be sometime after Picard's Enterprise is built before I finally make a million dollars from all this online stuff.
After all, I'm not making stupid cat videos.

Musicians don't make a ton on spotify unles there are a lot of plays and whatever the advertising is. I know one that tried. Lot of work...
Yeah, I'm not really looking to get rich doing it, but if I could get one or two more students by putting my stuff on there, then it's worth it. It only takes a few extra minutes to take a video, like a quick query, and throw it up on Spotify.
Sorry, only students may add comments.
