Microsoft has paused the rollout of KB5002907 after reports that the optional Microsoft 365 Apps update deactivated, and in some cases removed, perpetual Office 2016 and Office 2019 installations.

KB5002907 was intended for Windows PCs running Microsoft 365 Apps installations that were more than 90 days out of date. Microsoft says it is investigating reports of unexpected results on some devices running Office 2016 or Office 2019 and paused the rollout to prevent additional devices from being affected.

Affected users may see Office reported as unlicensed. Microsoft recommends reactivating the purchased product in that case. If Office was removed, users may need to download and reinstall the edition they purchased and activate it again.

The problem is especially important for people still using perpetual-license versions of Office, including Access 2016 and Access 2019, because an update intended for Microsoft 365 Apps can interfere with an otherwise working Office installation.
