Microsoft released SQL Server Management Studio 22.10.2 on September 28, moving Database DevOps, Schema Compare, SQL Formatter, and GitHub Copilot Agent Mode into general availability. These tools bring more database-development work into SSMS, including SQL projects and consistent T-SQL formatting.
The Database DevOps workflow lets developers keep database definitions in SQL projects, validate and build them into DACPAC files, and publish changes or generate deployment scripts for review. It requires the Database DevOps workload and the .NET SDK. SSMS supports SDK-style Microsoft.Build.Sql projects; older Visual Studio SQL projects must be converted first.
Copilot Agent Mode can investigate dependencies, analyze execution plans, and work through multistep database tasks, according to Microsoft's announcement. In this release, query execution permissions follow the connected SQL account's permissions.
The update also fixes an Excel-export problem and a SQL Formatter bug that could remove required semicolons before WITH CTE and THROW statements, producing invalid T-SQL. See the official SSMS release notes for the full changes.
