I don't know why people who have not been on rockets continue to ask, "you're not scared?" No we were not scared... until something happens, then it's time to get scared.
Microsoft announced on September 28 that its SQL drivers now accept more consistent connection-string keywords, reducing the configuration differences between applications written in different languages. The available versions listed are Microsoft.Data.SqlClient 7.1.0, go-mssqldb 1.11.2, mssql-python 1.15.0, ODBC 18.7.1.1 and JDBC 13.6.0.
The change adds aliases for common settings while preserving existing keywords and public APIs. For example, ODBC now accepts MultipleActiveResultSets as an alias for MARS_Connection and WorkstationID as an alias for WSID. Shared names can simplify deployment templates and migrations, although driver-specific requirements remain. ODBC connections still need a driver name.
The rollout is not complete across every driver: Microsoft lists OLE DB support as coming in October, and more consistent Microsoft Entra authentication remains future work. See the official SQL Server announcement for the supported aliases and version requirements.
