Microsoft has released SQL Agent Skills and the Azure SQL Developer Hub, giving AI coding assistants SQL-specific guidance and ready-to-use app-building prompts. The September 29 launch supports GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Codex and Cursor.
The open-source skills cover Microsoft Entra authentication, connection pooling, schema design, migrations, query troubleshooting and vector search. They give agents reusable instructions and reference material for both new projects and existing applications.
The Developer Hub supplies starting points for task-tracking apps, Python APIs, semantic search, Azure Functions and row-level security. Developers first provision an Azure SQL database, then use a scenario prompt with their coding agent and review the resulting work. The Hub links to Azure's free database offer, including its prerequisites and limits.
