Microsoft released mssql-python 1.16.0 on October 13, adding Python 3.15 support and its first official Conda package for the SQL Server and Azure SQL driver. The October 14 announcement describes easier installation across supported Windows, Linux and macOS environments.
The update reduces overhead when fetching rows and adds a read-only row._mapping view for accessing column names and converting results into dictionaries. Reliability fixes clean pooled connections before reuse and address a Windows shutdown access violation, helping applications that repeatedly open database connections or process large result sets.
A new Rust-based provider is optional; upgrading does not switch existing applications away from the default Microsoft ODBC Driver 18 core. See Microsoft's announcement and the official release notes for installation details, supported platforms and fixes.
