OpenAI says creation of new custom GPTs ended October 26 in affected Enterprise workspaces, except FedRAMP. Existing, unmigrated GPTs can still be edited and used until their applicable retirement date. This cutoff is not a shutdown of every GPT.
The broader transition affects all ChatGPT plans. Custom GPTs are scheduled to retire December 11, 2026; FedRAMP and qualifying Enterprise workspaces with approved deferrals have February 11, 2027 deadlines. Check the notice for the account or workspace where a GPT was created.
Creators can migrate to plugins when the option is available. Instructions and knowledge files transfer, but custom actions do not, and replacement access is not automatic. Test familiar tasks and integrations before switching. Existing GPT conversations remain accessible after retirement, even though the GPTs and their pages become inaccessible.
