Last night, I complained directly to the CEO of Wasabi, David Friend (our cloud provider who hosts our videos and downloads). My email said:
Hi David. As you're aware, your service is experiencing problems today. My whole site is down. I use Wasabi for hosting my video files. My site depends on video! I am aware that your technicians are aware of the problem, but I'm just voicing my disappointment. I switched to you from AWS expecting a smooth ride. I'm hoping this doesn't happen again.
He responded this morning:
Richard, Our DNS account registrar, GoDaddy, has suspended our account because of content that they allege is being stored on Wasabi. I don't know what the content is, but we have removed it and are now trying to get Godaddy to reinstate our DNS service. I am getting an update in a few minutes. Several customers have already pointed out that GoDaddy has a very bad reputation in the IT industry, and i can see why. I will keep you personally informed on the situation.
Well, at least now we know the problem. I'll bet one of their customers was using their service to host illegal materials (child porn, pirated downloads, who knows) and GoDaddy shut them down. He just now sent me another email:
Richard, I was just told that Godaddy has reinstated our account about an hour ago and the DNS is now propagating through the world and everything should be back to normal within hours. We will publish a full post-mortem. My sincere apologies.
So this sounds like good news. Wait and see, I guess.
