I recently had flashtrack on my computer and had to run a special spyware remover.  After I ran it all my documents from microsoft word 2007 have .doc or docx after the title and now when I try to rename it if I delete .doc it changes the format of the document.  How do I change all my documents back to the way they were without .doc?  I would really appreciate your help as I am doing an online school course and every document has that.

Patricia, it sounds to me like whatever program you ran just made FILE EXTENSIONS visible.

You see, Word documents NORMALLY have the.DOC or.DOCX after them. This is how Windows knows what program "owns" those data files. Normally, however, these are hidden so you don't have to see them.

If you change one and try to remove that.DOC extension, Windows won't know it's a Word file anymore.

You can hide those file extensions again by opening up Windows Explorer, go to Folder Options, and under the VIEW tab, check the "Hide extensions for known file types" box.
