Once upon a time, people identified the god Neptune as the source of storms at sea. Today we call these storms hurricanes. The only people who still call hurricanes acts of god are the people who write insurance forms.
Richard, I have a data set consisting 13,026 rows of regional/call center complaint data. In an attempt to clean it and improve its usability I added a column containing city/state information from a separate data set on another sheet. Is there any way for me to 'pull' the city/state info from Sheet2 and plug it into the appropriate rows in Sheet1? I'm trying HLOOKUP an VLOOKUP and neither one is working. Answer from Richard Rost:
Yes, VLOOKUP is the solution. I am assuming you just didn't use the formula correctly. Watch this tutorial (below) on VLOOKUP and maybe that will show you what you did wrong. You didn't give me your formula, so I can't tell.
Oh, and if you've got a sheet with 13,000 rows in it, you REALLY should consider upgrading to a database like Microsoft Access. It handles large volumes of data much better.
You can use the VLOOKUP or HLOOKUP function.
VLOOKUP is a powerful function in Microsoft Excel that allows you to look up a value from another spreadsheet - or a smaller subtable (lookup table).
See this FREE tutorial for help with VLOOKUP:
