I have a long document (300+ pages), converted from WordPerfect, that I need to paginate with text (e.g., name/title- I) on left upper side of each page. The 1st 3 Prologue pages are in Roman numerals, the next pages are the chapters, beginning with page one of chapter one with #1 (in Arabic numbers) in the text. The text in the pagination then changes after the 1st 3 pages. I get so far and then the page numbers change to either all Roman or all Arabic in sequence.

It's complicated, I know, but that's how the agents/publishers want it. Thanks for any help you can give me.

You can do this by inserting multiple SECTION BREAKS. That will then allow you to create separate page numbering schemes and even page layouts for each section.

To set up different page numbering schemes inside your document, you need to set up SECTION BREAKS. See this tutorial:
