There are no limits when you are surrounded by people who believe in you, or by people whose expectations are not set by the short-sighted attitudes of society, or by people who help to open doors of opportunity, not close them.
Hello: I have created a workbook for a user that totals certain worksheet cells to another worksheet. Need to lock the cells with formulas. The way Excel 2007 Help says to lock cells, and the way the book Excel Step by Step instructs does not work. Protecting the sheet denies access to all cells; all I want to do is lock the cells with formulas. I have followed the instructions step by step, but must be missing a step. Any help much appreciated. Answer from Richard Rost:
Protecting cells in Excel is a little tricky, and it's not what you expect. You're right, cell protection locks ALL of the cells in your sheet. What you need to do is right-click on the cells you want to leave UNLOCKED, and then select Format Cells > Protection Tab. Uncheck the LOCKED box. Now when you turn protection on, those cells will remain UNLOCKED and the rest of the cells will be locked.
Tricky, I know. I get asked this question all the time.
