Don't want Word ribbon
Steve

Hi,

I have long used XP and Word 2003.

I have a very large number of macros, made with a program called Macro Express, not with Word.

I'm about to buy a new computer that, I assume, will come with Windows 7 and the latest Word.

I dread that ribbon business in the latest Word and don't want to have to remake all the macros.

What are my options?

Is there a third-party program that makes the new Word lose the ribbon and replace it with the Word 2003 menus? This would be the ideal solution.

If not, is it possible to move Word 2003 to the new computer or to buy Word 2003 and put it on the new computer?

Many thanks for any suggestions.

Steve

Answer from Richard Rost:

If you have your Word 2003 installation disc then yes, you can install it on Windows 7.

Yes, there are third-party programs to make Office 2007/2010 look like older versions without the Ribbon. I've never used any of them, to be honest.

All of your macros recorded with Word 2003 should work just fine with the newer versions, but you'll have to transfer them over.

I was personally someone who HATED the Ribbon when it was first released, but now that I'm used to it, I kind of like it. Give it a chance.
