I would like to open a document from inside Word 2003, but have it open in a completely new instance of the program. Word keeps opening all new documents in the same window/instance of the program, making it very difficult and annoying for me to switch back and forth between them. If it were possible to open them in different instances of the program, it would be a matter of clicking back and forth between different windows, and different instances of the program. How do I force Word 2003 to open new documents in a totally new instance of the program, as the default method of opening multiple documents? I do not want to open multiple documents in the same Word window. I want to do it in a different opening of the program. In other words, I want two different windows of the Word programs open at the same time.

I do it this way: I have a link to Word on my Quick Launch Bar at the bottom of my screen (it also works with a desktop icon, but then you have to move stuff out of the way to find it). If you click on the Word icon to launch copy 1 of Word, you can then open Document1. Now, click on the Word icon again from your Quick Launch Bar, and a second instance of Word is opened. Now you can open Document2, and they're in two separate windows... two "instances" of Word, as you put it... instead of multiple documents inside one Word container.
