fore word, I know this is an incredibly ambitious project, but I do quite enjoy these...
I have started watching Richard's tutorials for MS access. I know what I want to make, but I don't know if it is possible. I was hoping a more experienced user could let me know if it is theoretically possible and suggest what tutorials or lessons I should watch to make it a reality. Otherwise, what application would be more suited to my needs?
I have recently joined my grandfather's business in between university The business makes pipes and a lot of matching products to suit the pipes. We offer each product (roughly 75), in almost every size (26 normalizes), in each material (roughly 8) (You can see where it gets tricky...). All up it is estimated there are somewhere in the realm of 10,000-15,000 products currently. I would like to have a way to store my current price list (and all future iterations), and my competitors' prices (current, former and future), then breakdown my costs for each item, so I can generate reports showing my profit, how much cheaper/more expensive I am compared to my competition in any given year. It would be nice to have a custom pricing function if I input hours/tools used/default costs over x, to generate a combined price. Again this is done by hand at the moment...
Historically everything is done by hand. I have only just moved our price list to excel, and it hurts my head to manage this many products at once, and ensure we are making money on each item while remaining competitive.
Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope.

That would be possible yes, usually with access it's not a question of "if" but "how", most things are doable either by design or with some creative thinking.
Now the real problem is what classes you should take. You have a lot of questions and with those is going to need to be more than just "do this to make the function", you also will need an understanding of other things to be able to understand what it is doing and how to fix/modify it. I think you'd be best off just starting from the beginning and working through all of the classes. Get a Learning Connection Memberships to save some money and start going through classes. Tech Helps can also be good for learning specific things, but again, they are built ontop of core knowledge, so you can follow along the lesson but you may not completely understand things.
It's definitely possible, but you're going to need some tricky relationship work there. It's like tracking SKUs for clothes. Each item in various sizes, colors, etc. can have a different cost and sale price. It's all about how you want to track it. I cover something similar to this in Access Developer 13 and 14. I've got something similar on my TechHelp list for an upcoming video too.
