Every act of conscious learning requires the willingness to suffer an injury to one's self-esteem. That is why young children, before they are aware of their own self-importance, learn so easily.
I am not sure if this is possible. In a drop down listbox I have a few items beginning with the same initial letter. So when a user uses key "B" the first item is selected. Is there a way to block that so they have to select from the list in the box?

Open the Property Sheet for your Combo Box and set Auto Expand to No. It is on the Data tab.

Kevin - The first item is still selected in the Combo Box if the Auto Expand is set to No when it is dropped down. That is kind of the nature of the beast.
Using the arrow keys you can move down or up depending and enter key selects the highlighted record. I'm not aware to have your cake and eat it too regarding selection on the record - ie forcing a click to select.

Maybe the KeyPress event can help. It can prevent any key from being pressed while the cursor is inside the combo box, forcing the user to open the drop-down box.
